flipping to the aa, seasoned jock, derek kaye has reworked holding on and in the process landed it (and a few others!) in greg wilsons top edits of 2014 chart. by now, you must know that we are very fond of a bit of cheese in our whiskey… rulefinn sidesteps the usual elements of la biondas i got your number to focus on the slick guitar, while retaining the vocals until the end for optimal impact.

initially alfonso muskedunder was just the nickname for my newborn son alf, but the character soon started leading it s own life. interpreted for this single by a bunch of good people, such as deetron (jazzy-ish housey-ish), bullion (main vocal funky latin house mix... or not. it s vocal though), mungolian jetset (acid mambo deep in the forest, quattro formaggio pizza style) and the mysterious tangoterje (dub mambo especial), the icing on the cake finally came in the form of a fully animated music video courtesy of bendik kaltenborn and espen friberg. kind of tricky to explain exactly what goes on in that one, guess you have to see for yourself...

despite refusing to stick to a single genre, deft is one of those immediately recognisable producers, which is nice because it means we dont have to waste any time comparing him to anyone else. 2013 saw the croydon man skilfully hopping from headphone to dance styles, often within a track, his signature blend of cinematic soundscapes and crisp, intricate percussion covering hip-hop, house, and ambient. whats more, his noteworthy contributions to the burgeoning uk footwork scene means the young producer can now count mark pritchard, dj shadow and rockwell among his biggest fans, and boy does this boy have fans, check this bandcamp review of his project mooncircle ep voight kampff: anything this magician puts out has a pretty good chance of getting you pregnant right in the good old music hole. says it all really

4th and final part of this legendary morris audio compilation series bringing some new (origins sound, manooz) and old faces (volta cab, julien sandre), but keeping the house vibe in different shades. up and coming origins sound (glasgow underground, lost) present a bassy pumping uk house tune whereas volta cab (kolour, hypercolour) goes back the the rave days and invites us to some hardcore heaven. the flipside starts with morris audio buddy julien sandre, who is still some kind of secret underground weapon, even if he already released on argys these days label or on tsuba. finishing off the ep is manooz (alive, extended play) with a great deep and raw house tune. this all is for you, seven daze a week!

nebraska is someone who’s tracks we’ve been loving for a good few years now and finally managed to pin him down for a release here on delusions of grandeur. the uk producer is something of an enigma, and despite some amazing releases on rush hour still remains resolutely underground and seems to keep his releases to a minimum, focusing on keeping the quality high rather than flooding the market with average material. once again, he brings the real deal with three drum-heavy warehouse jams to nice-up the dancefloor. aw-right (mute version) sets the tone with a raw house groove that keeps things stripped to the bare minimum. a bouncing bassline and rattling percussion break help to define the track but it’s the dusty, dubby approach to the mix which really makes the track shine. next up we have warp and weft, a similar sounding track but by dropping the bpm’s nebraska has created a sublime low-slung, bumpy groove to really move to. flipping over we’re treated to the brilliant eighty eights which will have you nodding your head like the churchill’s dog before you can say ‘looped up piano and bass one bar groove repeated for over eight and a half minutes shouldn’t work should it?’

oh yeah, we love those tunes, we love the idea of this west (mexico) to east (lithuania) studio exchange, we love the jam style, we love the instant lets record it and put it on wax feel! so we dont want to blow this up. no big pr stories, just good music made by ponty mython (dirt crew, swedish brandy, eat more house) and sebastien vorhaus (quintessentials, faces records, vicario musique). buy it, play it, feel it! thanks!

vinyl only! dragosh delivers with impact his track brinit . set on a traveling percussion loop, playfully adventurous and filled with an ever growing energy. a warm melodic female vocal in contrast to a technical voice cut draws the listener in to feel the energy with no chance to get tired. rhadoo and cezar take the voice out and put it into a new context. with their focus firmly on the groove, and adding some extra synths they create with finesse, a proper trip... reducing the vocals into whistles and layering a rather mysterious noise, they masterfully turn this remix into something totally hypnotizing...damn good too

brazilian-born, orlando-based hip-hop artist, niko is, readies his debut album, brutus, courtesy of talib kwelis javotti media. all production credits on the album are attributed to nikos longtime collaborator, thanks joey. this is nikos third body of work, following two mixtapes he released independently with the support of dj smallz and javotti media. while recording his previous projects, chill cosby and good blood, niko simultaneously worked on brutus.

san francisco-based dj/producer nick monaco has long been part of the soul clap family, releasing his first 12- on the label back in 2012. mating call, a double 12- set running at album length, is easily his most expansive release yet. it s typically eccentric, delivering a range of songs - featuring his own distinctive vocals - that blend numerous styles whilst retaining a loose, funky and altogether rather kaleidoscopic feel. it s rooted in balearic pop, but also touches on dub, deep house, boogie, dub disco and a strangely deep and contemporary take on the triple-beat rhythms of glam rock. it s hard to accurately describe, but is really rather good, certainly, it s one of soul clap s strongest releases of recent times.

it often said that all good things must come to an end, but it s especially satisfying when that end is a real high note. wed like to think thats the case with icee hot, as its five- year run as a party and a label is coming to a close this month, both with a 28­hour marathon goodbye event and with daddy issues, the latest ep from vin sol & matrixxman.
